What do I need for a session?

You just need a quiet space where you can move freely, comfortable clothing you can move in and a yoga mat if you have one. For online sessions you'll need a device with a camera and a stable internet connection. A journal is optional.


Is this the same as regular therapy?

Somatic therapy shares some similarities with traditional talk therapy but the approach is different. Rather than focusing primarily on thoughts and language, we work with what's happening in the body, physical sensations, movement patterns and nervous system responses. It's especially helpful for you if you understand your patterns intellectually but haven't been able to shift them through talking alone.


Do I need any movement experience or a certain fitness level?

Not at all. Somatic therapy is not about fitness or physical performance., the sessions involve gentle movement, breath and body awareness at a pace that works for you. You're always in control of how much you do and modifications are always available.


What can I expect from my first session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other and understanding what's brought you here. We'll talk through what you're hoping to work on, I'll explain how I work and we'll begin gently exploring what's happening in your body. There's no pressure to dive into anything before you're ready.
