If you've spent more time in your head than in your body for as long as you can remember, or you're highly functional on the outside but running on empty underneath, you're in the right place.

Maybe you can't switch off after a stressful day or maybe anxiety and stress have just become so familiar they feel like your personality now. Or maybe you just know something feels off in your body and you can't quite explain it.

Somatic and dance movement therapy works with the body and the mind together, helping you move stuck stress and tension out of the body, uncover what's keeping you in those patterns and build a nervous system that can handle life without burning out.

What Is Somatic Therapy?

A person with curly hair and freckled skin wearing a black top and a gold necklace, posing with one arm raised and hand behind their head against a plain light-colored wall.
  • You've probably heard the word somatic everywhere lately, but it can sound vague or overused. Somatic comes from the Greek word ‘Soma’, meaning body. Somatic means "of the body," so somatic therapy is just therapy that works with the body directly, rather than only through talking.

In practice, that looks like paying attention to what's happening inside your body and letting that guide how you move. We work slowly and gently, noticing breath, sensation and tension, so the nervous system has space to settle and reorganise.

There's no right or wrong way to move and it’s not about performance. It's about building awareness, choice and a sense of safety in your body.

  • Despite the name, dance movement therapy isn’t about learning dance steps or performing choreography and you don’t need any dance experience.

Trauma, chronic stress, anxiety and emotional overwhelm can get stuck in the body in ways that are hard to put into words. Patterns of bracing, shutting down, or holding on. Movement becomes a way to process and release those patterns without needing to find the words first, letting the body work through what the mind hasn't been able to shift on its own.

It's a psychotherapeutic approach that uses movement as the primary language. Rather than talking through your experience, you move through it. Sessions follow what naturally arises in the body, which allows emotion, memory and internal states to be processed in a way that talking alone often can't reach.

  • What’s the difference?

1:1 Somatics and Dance Movement Therapy

Therapy sessions are personalised and responsive to you. They move at your pace and are shaped around your nervous system, lived experience and what’s present in your body that day.

These sessions are more relational and reflective, they’re suited to working with stress patterns, emotional overwhelm, anxiety, burnout and trauma in a contained, one-on-one setting. Think of it like a talk therapy session but using movement instead of just talking.

Group Somatic Workout Classes (Soma SWEAT & Soma SOFTEN)

Classes are movement-based experiences designed for regulation, release, and reconnection.

They’re less verbal, less personal and focus on shared movement themes rather than individual processing.

These classes are supportive and nervous-system aware, but they are not therapy. They’re ideal if you want regular movement that helps you release tension and to feel better in your body without needing to talk about your story.

How Somatic & Dance Movement Therapy Can Help

This work can support you to:

  • Regulate your nervous system without forcing calm

  • Reconnect with your body and your internal cues

  • Build awareness around patterns like bracing, freezing, dissociation, or overdoing

  • Increase your capacity to stay present with sensation and emotion

  • Develop a stronger sense of safety, choice, and agency in your body

  • Process emotion in ways that don't rely only on talking

  • Improve your sense of body image and self-esteem

  • Increased mobility and coordination

Over time, you may notice more ease in your body, better stress tolerance, clearer boundaries and less reactivity.

"Robyn is really good at ensuring I feel safe and comfortable during sessions, which I feel was really important. I also appreciate her always reminding me that no movements are wrong and I can move however I want. Really good and helped me attune to my body again."

"I loved our morning session, the gentle connection to the body followed by faster movement and a mix of dancing/enjoying the tunes. It was the class I didn’t know I needed. Your beautiful energy and the beach sunrise was just the perfect combo."

- Soma SWEAT Class Attendee

"The Somatic sessions with Robyn were amazing. She asked questions at the start to know what to work on and tailored each session to my needs. She demonstrated the movements clearly and explained how they impact the body, while also teaching me how to practice them on my own at home.

She always listened closely and adapted the sessions based on what I needed that day. The sessions helped me feel calmer, more connected to my body and taught me how to move purposefully to reassociate.

Months later, I still use techniques when I need to calm down or feel more centred. I highly recommend doing sessions with Robyn!"
